  • My Favorite Websites

I wonder what I used to do with my time before the Internet?
    I can't remember.

Now days I spend a lot of my free time on the computer so, I thought I would
share some of my favorite websites.

    1. CLUB POGO www.Pogo.com
I really like the games. I multi-task during my free time by watching TV and playing games at the same time. I am not sure this counts as double your pleasure? I have heard that too much multi-tasking gives you brain fatigue. Anyway, the games are great. If you are interested in trying it I will send
a 5 day guest-pass to the first one who asks.

    2. STOCK EXCHANGE www.sxc.hu
It's the leading free stock photo website. It's got some great pics. If you need a pic for wallpaper on your computer or something for your blog, they have over 350,000 of them.

    3. THE PIONEER WOMAN www.thepioneerwoman.com
It's a blog by a ranchers wife named Ree. She's a great cook and photographer. I have tried several of her recipes and they were big hits. Her website has become very popular, it was even featured on CNN. She has great giveaways from time to time too. She gave away a Zune recently and a Kitchen Aid Blender.
    Nice stuff.

    4. MR. PICASSO HEAD www.mrpicassohead.com
It's an art website where you can create your own picasso style drawing. They give you the eyes, nose, face and lips to choose from.
It's fun. Try it, you'll like it.

    5. THE SCRABBLE SOLVER www.scrabblesolver.net
It helps you find words for scrabble. You just enter your letters and it gives you all the possible word options.

    6. THE QUOTE GARDEN www.quotegarden.com
Great place to find quotes for any occassion. I've tried quite a few quote websites and this is the best,
    in my humble opinion.

    7. THE BIBLE GATEWAY www.biblegateway.com
Wow, it has a great search engine. Talk about a quick way to find the Bible verse you were looking for.
    I love this.

I'd love to hear about your favorites. You never know when you are going to discover a great place on the web.

  • Rehabilating the Dog

My husband and I have fallen in love with the show The Dog Whisperer. We are excited about the new season starting this week. Maybe it sounds lame but we love it. Cesar Millan is amazing.

I love those scenes of him on roller blades while leading a pack of dogs! That's cool. What we have learned from him is that, sadly, we are not the leaders of the pack at our house. We still have a ways to go on that score. We treat our lil Kiwi like a human. And she has tons of quirks and phobias to show for it.

For one thing, she is scared of her food bowl, so we feed her on a paper plate. She will only eat chicken breast, no dog food. Also, she won't walk on our wood floor---it totally freaks her out. Sometimes she gets stuck in a room because she is scared to walk on the floor and cries until we come get her.

She won't wear clothes. Not even a dog collar. We bought her an outfit for Halloween but she would have none of it. Hang on a second, maybe that's normal?

And the worst problems is, she's ferocious when new people come to the house. She barks in a really mean voice but she is terrified of everything. She really needs help. Maybe this season we can figure out how to help this big ole scardy cat-dog.

We have had a life-long habit of adopting needy people and pets. Our work is not done with Kiwi yet. Say a prayer for us that our dog will get the help she so desperately needs.  He he he.

  • I have a son...

You know those Mom's who carry pictures around of their children and make you look at them...
weather you want to or not?
    Yep.
I am one of those Mom's.

My son called the other day and asked me to scan some picture of him...
but these are probably not the pics he was talking about.

Today my son is very musical....but this never tipped us off to the talent he possessed.

One of life's more embarrassing moments.

In high school he went to the Cowboys football camp...'nuff said.

A proud day and good friends.

This is a pic of him on the way to pop the big question to the girl he fell in love with. Sniff-sniff.
    He looks so happy.

Here's the lovely girl that said yes. This is their offbeat engagement picture.
    It suits them perfectly.

And here's my baby boy...no matter how big he gets...that's still my baby!

  • Who Let the Dogs Out?

At our house it's my job.
I have been dog-sitting for my son and daughter-in-law this week.
    This is Buddy.

Normally Buddy isn't that friendly with me. Usually when he comes to my house he pretty much ignores me. But this week he has adopted me as his human. I haven't been able to take a step without him following right along. Aren't those brown eyes just the sweetest thing!

A few weeks ago Buddy went to Dog Camp. The kids paid several hundred dollars to have him trained. I hope I haven't ruined his training but the only instructions they left me were how to feed him. Do you think they will mind the treats of leftover brisket, bacon and cheese I have been giving him?

I think that may have won him over. He gets so excited when I come home, he leaps for joy. I love seeing him do that.

He's been great company and I am really attached to him, in spite of the problem child my little chihuahua has been this week. Kiwi is NOT thrilled to have Buddy staying with us. She has been really cranky all week. She  deals with Buddy's presence by ignoring him most of the time. However, if he tries to get near her she barks at him in a really mean voice.
    Her ugly side comes out.

Every time I sit down on the sofa, Kiwi curls up on my left and Buddy lays on my right. And Buddy better not try to crossover.

    I just have to say
it's not that comfortable being the object of affection of two needy dogs.

"Properly trained, a man can be dog's best friend."  ~Corey Ford

About Me

  • It's called Up Girls because I believe in being an uplifting person. There is enough everyday stuff to drag you down. Have you ever met a refreshing, uplifting person that made you feel good to be around them? I have and they are rare and precious when you find them. Well, I want to be intentional about becoming that type of person. It's work... cause life ain't easy. I have a ways to go but God is at work in me.
